Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) Resource Teacher
USAMRDC has opportunities for Resource teachers for the summer during our Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program.
The GEMS program is an extracurricular science education program, which enables students to experience science in a real laboratory setting. The program is based on a multi-disciplinary educational curriculum, and is focused on age- and grade-appropriate hands-on activities, in areas such as science, engineering, mathematics, computational sciences, computational biology, biomedical sciences, chemistry and biology.
Typically a Resource Teacher would be a licensed teacher within the public school/state system that currently teaches middle or high school students in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. However, other professions are encouraged to apply. Ideally the candidate would have experience in a supervising role.
The Resource Teacher would be responsible for daily supervision of the Near-Peer Mentors (College aged individuals that teach the student interns), students, and the maintenance of the laboratory/classroom. The Resource Teacher would provide guidance on all experimental activities and would need to be present for the duration of the program as well as necessary time before and after the program. The Resource Teacher would also assist with curriculum as needed and is provided a stipend for the internship.

Junior Solar Sprint Teacher Advisor
JSS is an educational program for 5th through 8th grade students with the goal of creating the fastest, most interesting, and best crafted solar-vehicle possible. Students will design, build and race solar powered cars using hands-on engineering skills and principles of science and math, develop teamwork and problem solving abilities, investigate environmental issues, and gain hands-on STEM skills. There is no fee for registering.
The Junior Solar Sprint program provides educational materials, supplementary instructional videos, connections to outside resources, and "how to" guides to implement JSS curriculum and races-everything needed for a teacher, mentor, or community member to bring JSS to the next generation of innovators.
Once teachers have registered on the free Cvent registration site they will receive access to all the online resources for the program.
The program, however, is student directed. Teacher Advisors provide initial instruction on how to get started, then the students should be able to take over in the design and build of their solar car.
Solar kits (which come with the solar panel, guide wires and clips) are available to JSS participants.

About AEOP & eCYBERMISSION
eCYBERMISSION is a web-based science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) competition for students in grades six through nine that promotes self-discovery and enables all students to recognize the real-life applications of STEM. Teams of three or four students are instructed to ask questions (for science) or define problems (for engineering), and then construct explanations (for science) or design solutions (for engineering) based on identified problems in their community. Students compete for State, Regional, and National Awards. The U.S. Army Educational Outreach Program is committed to answering the Nation's need for increased national STEM literacy and to expanding STEM education opportunities across the country to open doors to new career paths for American students that lead to a brighter tomorrow.
About Team Advisors: Monitor, Assist and Lead the Team!
The primary role of the Team Advisor (Teacher, Parent, Etc.) is to support students and teams during registration, Mission Folder research and development, and submit Mission Folders by the Mission Folder submission deadline. Team Advisors must be at least 21-years-old to lead a team.

- Place students on complete teams via your eCYBERMISSION Team Advisor Homepage
- Discuss Mission Challenges with your teams and select the Challenge via your Team Advisor Homepage
- Discuss Scientific Inquiry Using Scientific Practices or Engineering Design Process for each team and select the team choice via your Team Advisor Homepage.
- Monitor teams as they engage in Discussion Forums and Team Talk
- Review the completed Mission Folder and submit the Mission Folder, via your Team Advisor Homepage, by the February deadline.
